Socio-economic empowerment of coastal communities as users of the sea to ensure sustainable coastal development
Funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, EmpowerUs was a €6.2 million, three-year project (2022-2025) aiming to empower coastal communities in transitioning towards more resilient, inclusive and sustainable coastal development. It was coordinated by the Nordland Research Institute, Norway, brought together 16 partners in 9 countries, and focused on close collaborative work with six coastal communities through Transition Coastal Labs (TCLs). Dr. Antonova was a Co-PI and the Academic Lead for the TCL in Burgas, Bulgaria, working in close collaboration with the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation.
